It still recalls the kosmische explorations of Cluster and Tangerine Dream, and Kraftwerks heady blend of pop and propulsion, but it feels lived in and worn down, like an old 12 thats been spun too many times, its groove scratched and erratic. Roll the Dice is a song by the British singer-songwriter Steve Harley, released in 1978 as the lead single from his debut solo album Hobo with a Grin. It was written by Harley and Jo Partridge, and produced by Michael J. In 1977, Harley began working on his debut solo album Hobo with a Grin. Once it was completed in early 1978, he decided to leave Britain and live in Los Angeles for almost a year. A week before the release of Hobo with a Grin, Roll the Dice was released as the album's. A film by Frode Fjerdingstad Words by Rory Gibb Titles by Gustaf von Arbin Voiceover by Paul Bolderson Recorded by Peter Wright Music and sound by The Dice will release their second full-length this September, entitled In Dust. After dropping their eponymous debut album last year, the Swedish duo have found a home on The Leaf Label, a UK imprint that put out their Live in Gothenburg EP this past April. Unlike their first full-length, which was pieced together over a number of years, In Dust was conceived as a whole and recorded in just a matter of months in Sweden. Though it continues with their modus operandi of analog equipment and controlled improvisation, the album marks a shift in tone for Roll the Dice. In Dust. Roll The Dice. Released: Sep 2011. Label: The Leaf Label. Like Emeralds or Oneohtrix Point Never, Stockholm's Malcolm Pardon and Peder Mannerfelt are fascinated by Krautrock's cosmic wing their synths and Rhodes progressions are a swirl of knots and burls, but the overall feel is smooth to the touch. There are nods to classical minimalism, new age and even trance you'd call it ambient if it weren't so active. But the motion's on a molecular level - the tracks, and the album as a whole, roll out as smoothly as the tide. As displayed on their recent Live in Gothenburg EP, Roll the Dice can be a ferocious proposition in concert. Harnessing the often unpredictable power of analogue synthesisers, bolstered with organ and piano, their long, layered instrumentals tend to build to a peak of intensity before teetering and collapsing. This is a very different journey to that described by Roll the Dices 2010 self-titled debut album. That album, more directly related to the work of trailblazing 1970s kosmische bands such as Tangerine Dream and Cluster, had a naïve quality to it that In Dust replaces with something more imposing

This album is unbelievably disappointing! It never goes anywhere - it never conveys anything, it just kinda goes through it's course and is continuously boring. I love their first album, but this doesn't ever come close. If you're looking for an emotional album that attempts to convey the pains of labor workers from times past - check out Johann Johannsson's Miners Hymn album.
