Rise Above is the second studio album by JK Flesh, a moniker of English musician Justin Broadrick, and was released digitally and on vinyl on 3 June 2016 through the label Electric Deluxe under the designation . It is Broadrick's fourth release under the JK Flesh title and continues the sparse, drum and bass style of Nothing Is Free, the EP released a year earlier. Rise Above is an album by indie rock band Dirty Projectors, released on September 11, 2007. The album was band leader David Longstreth's reinterpretation of Black Flag album Damaged from memory having not heard it in 15 years. The album features Longstreth on guitar and vocals, Amber Coffman on vocals and guitar, Brian McOmber on drums, Nat Baldwin on bass, and Susanna Waiche on vocals. Angel Deradoorian would join the band shortly before the Rise Above tour on bass and vocals. This album is the first. Rise Above is serious, somewhat inhuman stuff, which is possibly why the band never smiles onstage: Longstreth, wide-eyed and focused, hair like wild grass Deradoorian and Coffman looking eerily cornfed, as blank as backup singers in Mullholland Drive, their hands responsible for a completely different set of rhythms than their voices McOmber a pair of arms occasionally rising above the wall. But newfound focus from the band brings newfound exhaustion for listeners. Rise Above will drop plenty of jaws, and, like Deerhoof, Dirty Projectors are restructuring rock on a compositional level rather than a sonic one. RISE ABOVE RELICS UPDATE NUMBER Cycle were an incredibly heavy local band from Middlesborough, active between 1968 through to 1976. Originally known as Psycle, they recorded their self-financed debut album in 1971 via SRT Productions. It was a private pressing of less than 99 copies without artwork. It has since gone on to be a major want on hardcore collector's lists. Unbeknown to most, they also recorded a second albums worth of material the following year, which has remained unreleased until now. Cosmic Clouds is a genuinely obscure artefact from the underground heavy. RISE ABOVE is a 24-track essentially karaoke version of BLACK FLAG songs featuring former flag vocalists Keith Morris and Henry Rollins as well as Neil Fallon of Clutch, Cedrix Bixler or The Mars Volta, Tom Araya of SLAYER, Dean Ween, Nick Oliveri formerly of QOTSA, and HANK III. The Mike Patton-led version of SIX PACK has to be heard to be believed. I also followed the West Memphis Three case fairly closely and was happy to see a tribute album for them, and to eventually even get to hear it performed live in Irving Plaza in NYC.
