The song was originally intended for Roy Orbison, who recorded it in 1987, the year before his death, but his version was not released until 1992, after Lauper's version became a top 10 hit on both sides of the Atlantic in 1989. Tom and I walked out and were standing out in the street. Working with Jeff Lynne, he recorded the successful comeback album Mystery Girl, which contained the hit 'You Got It. He also joined The Traveling Wilburys with Lynne, Tom Petty, George Harrison and Bob Dylan. Sadly, Orbison died of a heart attack on December 7, 1988.
