There was a time in the early 90s when a Rabbit-in-the-Moon remix meant something, and this collection shows just what that something was. From the slow and dark tribal take on Sarah McLaclan's Fear to straight-up acid trance, like on East a collaboration with Humate or the mixes for Astral Pilot and Velocity. But the magic really comes when he takes on pop music. Confucious & Monk continue to create their own special remix sound, and present it here on their first Remix album. A whole variety of styles here, from the downtempo and somewhat nicely depressing style of Sarah McLachlan's Fear, to the hyped up beats of Goldie's Inner City Life. Here, RITM put their spin on an unusually wide range of acts, from White Zombie to Sarah McLachlan to Garbage to Goldie. Rabbit in the Moon is an American electronic music group that formed in 1991. After several singles released on Monk and David Christophere's Hallucination Recordings label under the name Anarch-E, their first success as producers came in 1993 with the release of the Phases of an Out. Rabbit In The Moon was formed in the fall of '92 by producer and Monk, a well-established DJ in Florida. They had already been part of throwing the first underground rave party in Florida, as well as collaborating on new forms of electronic music with their project Anarch-e, mixing club music with hardcore punk and alternative. I bought this record because of Goldie's "Inner City Life (Short Attention Span Edit)". This edit is the best remix mixing in a techno set. Always a surprise for ravers...

There was a time in the early 90s when a Rabbit-in-the-Moon remix meant something, and this collection shows just what that something was. From the slow and dark tribal take on Sarah McLaclan's "Fear" to straight-up acid trance, like on "East" (a collaboration with Humate) or the mixes for Astral Pilot and Velocity. But the magic really comes when he takes on pop music. Garbage's "Queer," for instance, becomes pure club gold, with a moody edge to keep things interesting, while Eric Clapton's TDF project gets "Ripstop" backed with a full 4/4 onslaught that shifts into some fast breaks to accompany the guitar noodlings and back again. Even Rob Zombie's growling on "Blood, Milk & Sky" becomes palatable. Meanwhile, Goldie's drum'n'bass classic "Inner City Life" gets down with some wicked house breaks (sadly, this is the edited version rather than the 9+ minute full-length). Orbital, too, has "Are We Here" accelerated and deepened. It's a pity they couldn't sustain this level of quality, but it's still great to hear them at their peak.
