Because Prince played and recorded the album using now-vintage late 80s technology there are moments when certain sounds, particularly the drums, are clearly of their era. Through October 1986 Prince began to record altered vocals to create his feminized persona, and Warner Bros. Many of the tracks from both of these albums ended up on the album Sign o' the Times. Eight of the album's seventeen tracks were included on various configurations of the Dream Factory album, planned as the fourth album by Prince and the Revolution.
