It was released in October 1995 via Gee Street Records, and was unable to attain the success of the group's first two albums, Of the Heart, of the Soul and of the Cross: The Utopian Experience and The Bliss Album. Vibrations of Love and Anger and the Ponderance of Life and Existence. The album's highest charting single was Downtown Venus, which contained a sample of Deep Purple's Hush. The single reached 48 on the Billboard. With their third album, Jesus Wept, P. Dawn doesn't necessarily make a great leap forward. Instead, they make some great refinements. Prince Be's lyrics are just as trippy and cryptic as ever, but they appear more focused, offering a poetic, spiritual worldview that is supported by the lovely, layered music. Released October 3, 1995. Jesus Wept Tracklist. Intro 1995 15 Songs. Hip-HopRap to Jesus Wept by P. Dawn released their most cohesive and impressive album, 'Jesus Wept' - and sadly, were rewarded with their first flop. 3, 1995, with their third LP, Jesus Wept. Unfortunately, the world doesn't always reward art based on merit, and the album and its singles came nowhere close to the sales totals of the group's first two efforts. Instead, it proved to be the start of a sad decline into obscurity and illness for their mastermind, Prince Be. Born Attrell Cordes, Prince Be and his brother Jarrett, who went by the name DJ Minutemix, first came to the world's attention with their smash 1991 Spandau Ballet-sampling hit Set Adrift on Memory Bliss. Jesus Wept is, in fact, not all that different from the heady potion of English psychedelic synth pop, east coast new jack sway, and new age metaphysics the group brewed on 1993's The Bliss Album. only it's much more that way. Prince Be's existential voyage through his religiousspiritual identity crisis is surprisingly endearing, and songs like The 9:45 Wake-Up Dream and are every bit as inventive as their titles suggest
