This in perhaps an EP or mini-album, credited as having 4 tracks while the actual disc argues 5. First track is entitled "Barbies Song", combining a curious blend of harmonic female vocals, acoustic guitar, sudden electric guitar slams & slightly distorted male voice into something which might make the likes of DEATH IN JUNE proud, with elements of such people as ROSENGRACHT & perhaps some of the softer moments (!!!) from ROZZ WILLIAMS' spoken word album, It has a double helix-twisted dualism of mood, being basically fairly passive & relaxed, yet having sudden jags of guitar & weird vocal sounds (a little like mewing of cats). Next comes "Oddny's Song", built again on closer-to-the-mike acoustic guitar with slightly off-key, flat female voice, which gives it a certain darkness & dust. It has a certain suggestive lyricism to it. "Christine's Song" comes next, again using acoustic guitar, but this time combining whisper-like background voice, cello & child-like bursts of lyrics. As such it makes for an odd-sounding piece, reminding me a little of something by CURRENT 93. Some interesting moments are created within the deceptively-simple composition. "En Hymne For Sven" combines strumming acoustic guitar & cello with the ambient sound of bird-song, more aimed for mood than for a tuneful song. The fifth, untitled piece breaks is an altogether more experimental piece using stark percussion, distorted guitar-like constant strum & all manner of electronically-enhanced sounds, combined into something like a Folk version of an old DOME track, widened-out & added to, creating a constant rhythmic piece of trance-weirdness.
I'm not sure what to say about this recording. They definitely fit into the Folk area of this scene, with elements of Medieval & more Traditional musics, Yet they fall outside at easy comparisons. Very self-indulgent & for some perhaps very tasty.
