Info
Deliverance is the sixth studio album by Swedish progressive metal band Opeth. It was released on 12 November 2002. It was recorded between 22 July and 4 September 2002 see 2002 in music, at the same time as Damnation, which was released the following year. The two albums contrast starkly with one another, purposely dividing the band's two most prevalent styles, as Deliverance is considered to be one of the band's heaviest albums, whereas Damnation experiments with a much mellower progressive rock. Recording information: Recorded between July 22 and September 4, 2002, at Nacksving Studios and at Studio Fredman, Gothenburg, Sweden. Engineered by Opeth, Fredrik Nordström, and Steven Wilson. Produced by Opeth and Steven Wilson. The companion album of Opeth's opus, Damnation, Deliverance was intended to provide a contrast to Damnation's tranquil, somewhat depressing progressive rock with a far heavier sound also with a touch of depressing overtones, though this is less prevalent than in Damnation. In some ways, Opeth succeed. Deliverance is definitely the Swedish band's heaviest recording and generally sticks to the brutal metal like the band promised. On the flip side, the album fails where Akerfeldt and his men usually succeed. Expressing themselves. If anything, it is this, even more so than the me. Deliverance is Opeth's sixth studio album, following the band's highly successful 2001 album, Blackwater Park. It was recorded between July 22 and September 4, 2002 see 2002 in music, at the same time as Damnation, which was released the following year. The two albums contrast starkly with one another, as Deliverance is considered to be one of the band's heaviest albums, whereas Damnation experimented with a much mellower progressive rock-influenced sound. Deliverance and Damnation were originally intended to be released as a double album, but the band eventually decided again. With producer and Porcupine Tree leader Steve Wilson once again on hand to assist in Opeth's quest to remain true to its origins while progressing ever forward, the band's sixth volume, Deliverance offers no great departure by established standards, but rather continues exploring the possibilities of this very fruitful relationship.
