Tragic Kingdom is the third studio album by American third wave ska band No Doubt, released on October 10, 1995, by Trauma Records, a division of Interscope Records. The album was produced by Matthew Wilder and was recorded in eleven different studios across California between March 1993 and October 1995. Led by the infectious, pseudo-new wave single Just a Girl, No Doubt's major-label debut, Tragic Kingdom, straddles the line between '90s punk, third-wave ska, and pop sensibility. The record was produced by Matthew Wilder, the auteur behind Break My Stride - a clever mainstream co-opting of new wave quirkiness, and, as such, an ideal pairing. Wilder kept his production lean and accessible, accentuating No Doubt's appealing mix of new wave melodicism, post-grunge rock, and West Coast sunshine. Gwens Tragic Kingdom-era pain was incandescent because it felt off the cuff, uninhibited, and barely removed from its cause. You saw that up close in Dont Speak, the breakup ballad that pushed No Doubts success over the edge, topping the Billboard airplay chart for 16 weeks. This last factor became a central tension in the narrative of No Doubt once Tragic Kingdom began its long ascent up the charts it was a diamond-seller by the decades end. There was this recursive interview cycle where the band would discuss how Stefani was always the solo cover star, which said magazine would also do then the band would complain about that in their next interview. Tragic Kingdom is an album released in 1995 by alternative rockska band No Doubt. It is their third studio album and the last one featuring founding member and keyboardist Eric Stefani, who left the previous year during recording. The album noted a change in sound compared to previous efforts, leading to something simpler and leaning towards pop. This is a result of Eric Stefani who wrote most of the bands early songs leaving the band in 1994 during production, which in turn left the rest of the band especially his sister Gwen to adapt and fill in the songwriting hole he left behind. Album 1995 14 Songs. Pop 1995. Tragic Kingdom may have been shadowed by breakups and loss, but No Doubt channelled their emotions into genre-busting pop anthems that the world adored. Even as Tragic Kingdom progresses, No Doubt never lose their pep, finding a wonderful crescendo on the foot-stomping Sunday Morning, complete with Motown-esque whoa whoas. If the albums cover at was any indicator, No Doubt were fated to navigate the tricky situation of being eclipsed by their frontwoman. Even as riot grrrl was still operating underground, Gwen Stefani became one of the most recognisable female rock stars in the world
