They were one of the few bands who styled themselves on England's distinctive shoegaze sound, taking their inspiration from bands such as My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Th' Faith Healers, and Bleach. The band was formed by former classmates Greg Ackell vocals, guitar and Chris Roof drums, who recruited Paula Kelley vocals, guitar, Steve Zimmerman bass, and Motohiro Yasue guitar. The trio of fret benders occasionally ditch the shoegaze approach and go all out on noisiness, resembling the fathers of grunge, Sonic Youth and Pixies, rather than the fathers of shoegaze. The album also has it's quiet moments, where Drop Nineteens ditch the twisted noise, and innocent acoustic guitars come in.
