New Orleans Dixieland Music and Gospel Music have roots that are very closely tied together. Many of Dixieland's greats learned their instruments playing church bands and the influence can be heard in their performance. The New Orleans Salvation & Marching Band performs in this album a selection of gospel songs that will almost without exception be known to the listener. If you close your eyes you can imagine that you are listening to the church band giving a street corner concert, marching on a festive day, or performing at a church social or picnic. This is the sound of yesterday, a return to the nostalgic days when the pace of life was a little slower than today, and when tomorrow took a little longer in coming.
