Info

The Visitor is the 38th studio album by Canadian, American singer-songwriter Neil Young and his second studio album with American rock group Promise of the Real. The album was released on December 1, 2017, on Reprise Records. The album was preceded by the singles Children of Destiny, which was released on July 4, 2017, and Already Great, which was released on November 3, 2017 and is in response to President Donald Trump's campaign slogan of Make America Great Again. All tracks composed by Neil Young. What lasts with The Visitor are texture and asides, how the band is able to elevate the songs to seem like they matter. Inspected individually, it all falls apart. Young doesn't mold his melodies or thoughts into something grander than impulse, which is why The Visitor seems fascinating upon the first listen, but tiresome upon repeats. Neil Young reteams with Promise of the Real for a new album titled The Visitor, their second studio LP together following 2015s The Monsanto Years. The album, due out December 1st, comes just three months after Young released Hitchhiker, his long-lost LP of acoustic songs recorded over one night in August 1976. The singer previously denied. See: Neil Youngs Top 10 Songs. From there, though, The Visitor hits a bit of the same creative turbulence the good majority of Youngs recorded output has suffered these last two decades albeit with the exception of such straight-up classics as Silver & Gold, Prairie Wind, and Le Noise. If you go back and relisten to all of the so-so albums hes released since 2000 - Are You Passionate, Chrome Dreams II, Fork in the Road, Americana, Storytone, etc. you may notice certain creative crutches Young tends to lean on when hes not feeling 100 percent inspired to give it his all. Neil Young's first two collaborations with Promise of the Real, the band led by Willie Nelson's son Lukas Nelson, sounded sorta like tethered Crazy Horse albums. But without the free-fall unpredictability of Young's most reliable backing group of the past five decades, 2015's The Monsanto Years and the following year's embellished live record, Earth, came off like more structured attempts to capture Young at his most unhinged and plugged in. In a way, The Visitor is told through the voice of a stranger visiting a land uprooted by turmoil and dissent. The Visitor, Neil Youngs 39th record, is a sprawling and boundless project. Teaming again with Willie Nelsons sons Lukas and Micah and their band Promise of the Real, it harkens back to records like 1989s Freedom, when Youngs wandering interests stood proudly in defiance of cohesion. As evidenced by its first single-the artfully awkward cut-and-paste stomp Already Great -The Visitor often plays like Youngs impassioned response to the first year of the Trump administration. The presidents slogans and. The Visitor Q&A. Writers Neil Young. Featuring Promise Of The Real. Producers John Hanlon, Neil Young & Niko Bolas. Asistant Engineers Johnnie Burik & Rob Bisel. Bass Guitar and Backing Vocals Corey McCormick. Drums Anthony Logerfo. Children Of Destiny is the only overwrought and over-thought moment on The Visitor, Young's 39th studio album - the album he's using to launch his exhaustive online archive. The remaining nine tracks offer laments, fervent exhortations and heated diatribes about the rapidly changed world in the aftermath of the last U. presidential election. The quietly competent, and open-minded, musicians of Promise of the Real, now in their third collaboration with Young, help greatly with this. Neil Young weaves the rhetoric of protest into the stanzas of The Visitor - Already Great ends with the galvanizing chant Whose streets . Listen free to Neil Young & Promise Of The Real The Visitor.
