Myles MacInnes, born 1978 on the Isle of Skye, Scotland, has a trajectory that takes in a childhood on the Isle of Skye, low life in London and Paris and academia in Oxford and Los Angeles. In 2001, he returned to Scotland with one purpose to submerge himself in music. Destroy Rock & Roll is one of the better independent albums to come out this year, and even if it IS kind of generic, the majority of tracks here are highly entertaining. It's also pretty cool and worth noting that it was made by one guy who was bored one year and started messing around with songs on his laptop that's right, EVERYTHING was made on his laptop. The 9 good songs it does have aren't groundbreaking, nor are they great tracks, but they're pretty good dance tunes and that's it, they're pretty much just mindless dance songs, but there's a good number of them. I'm not sure who else to compare them to - possibly Royksopp. Destroy Rock & Roll presents another success story in the genre of bedroom electronica. Isle of Skye's Myles MacInnes recorded this debut album entirely at home with relatively basic computer software, and the resulting 14 tracks are every bit as compelling as contemporaneous efforts from like-minded electronic artists Daft Punk, Lemon Jelly, and the Orb. Though Mylo is a bit of a musical chameleon in that he raids influences from acid house to ambient techno to downtempo trip-hop, the album is held quite cohesively together by a smart sense of humor and what might be called a case of
