Info

Keep It Unreal is Mr. Scruff's first major release. It includes the hit single Get a Move On, which is an electro swing track built upon samples of Moondog's Bird's Lament In Memory of Charlie Parker alongside vocals from T-Bone Walker's Hypin' Woman Blues. The album ends with Fish, a track made up of samples about marine life, which is a motif of Mr. The original sleeve had a black background. A highlight of Ninja Tune's first decade, Mr. Scruff's second album tackles the same range of styles for which his marathon DJ sets are famous: a mix of soul, hip-hop, and jazz instrumentals with a light, easygoing vibe. Scruff flirts with all manner of tempos, from slowed-down house Cheeky to laidback hip-hop So Long, Travelogue, but it's the silky melodies and light-hearted samples that make this perfect for the acid-jazz set. Standouts include the flapper grooves of Get a Move On and Jusjus, featuring amped-up r. Keep It Unreal by Mr. Scruff, released 04 October 2019 1. Is He Ready 2. Spandex Man 3. Get A Move On 4. Midnight Feast 5. Scruff featuring Feebi & Feebi - Honeydew 6. Cheeky 7. So Long 8. Chipmunk 9. Do You Hear 10. Shanty Town 11. Scruff featuring Roots Manuva & Roots Manuva - Jusjus 12. This being a sophomore album for Mr. Scruff, you wouldn't know it given how things usually go. It's still a great album to go back to, a less-trodden look at late '90s electronic music still branching out into great things going into the '00s. Shout outs to anyone who remembers the Mercury car TV ads and IGPX for some of these tracks. Favorite track: Get A Move On. Keep It Unreal. Scruff - Keep It Unreal 1999. To favorites 3 Download album. Listen album. Trip-Hop Breakbeat Experimental. The vibes definitely triumph over any progression on these tracks, but the album's diverse moods and tempos work magic. The galloping gait and what sounds like a Louis Jordan sample power Get a Move On, while the next track, Midnight Feast, has the late-night feel of a Portishead single. The single Honeydew has a rich, soulful vocal that lifts the song into Soul II Soul territory while the cagey, metallic drum programs sound straight off a driving new wave single. Mr Scruff - Get A Move On'' should be named ''Moondog - Lament I, Bird's Lament Mr Scruff Mix'' because Scruff just added 44kickbassline and some sampled shout into it. Also ''Honeydew'' is just slowed down ''Spanky Wilson - Love Song'' with some additional rhythm. And that's the reason why other tracks on the album are weaker

Wow do I have love / hate relationship with this album. The album starts off with some of the best nu-jazz tunes this label and artist have to offer. Then, after less than half way through, the album falls into this big pile of crap. I have yet to listen to this whole album in one sitting but I keep popping it in for those two classics Get a Move On and Honeydew. I could honestly play Get a Move on the whole day without getting bored but as far as most of the album is concerned it's just one repeatative mess. There's some British humor mixed in as well, which I just don't get. Mr. Scruff likes little rodents, the ocean and pies I guess. If I was to do it again I would have just bought the two singles and downloaded this album and I recommend anyone new to this artist to do the same with this album.

as this was put out in 1999, it captured a lot of the liberty that the newly forged 'trip hop' movement afforded in its infancy. ninja tune is also a label that has no problem with novelty, and many ninja tune fans follow the label specifically for that reason. and this artist is one who has no difficulty being himself. any album, in my opinion, deserves the ability to be creative, a little silly, and offer more music than just dancefloor. it also helps to think of this release's intended sub-purpose as a dj tool, meant for vinyl, and to place the music in the context of the timeframe, being a new sound with its popularity amongst underground record collectors everywhere. these records, and everything else at the time on labels like this, mowax, tummy touch, quango, filter, jcr and others, became hits amongst alternative, independently-minded and cultured (specifically in the uk, germany, japan and the us) djs/collectors with big weekly buying budgets who happened to purchase and spin multiple electronic genres (house, techno, downtempo, jungle) and record store cd patrons alike during the mid-to-late 90s. so, as eclectic as one might find this guy's music and his personality (independent urban uniqueness was embraced during this period), i think full credit is due for this first important mr. scruff installment on such a great label.
