Karl Geiringer notes that K. 220 was one of the models Franz Xaver Süssmayr used when completing Mozart's Requiem. No-one is going to pretend that K 49 & K 194 are imperatives in any way but the other masses are fine works - and some would say that K 192, on its own terms, is a minor masterpiece. Mozart wrote K 275 in 1778 as a Marian offering on the eve of his ill-fated journey to Paris with his mother. There is much to admire here. Unlike Gardiner and Harnoncourt, Neumann demonstrates that period-practice does not have to be astringent to impart clarity and drama to proceedings. Download links.
