More upbeat and with far greater detail than the debut, Iaora Tahiti proves Jan St. Werner and Andi Toma haven't stood still. The pair's fondness for all things lo-fi follows them here, but just as evident is a depth and punch lacking in their earlier material. I can only echo the consensual opinion here. This is without doubt one of the most imaginative and perfect albums ever made, a perennial in my personal Top10. Sadly, its perfection rendered all of MoM's follow-up materials a letdown for me, interesting as they mostly were. But here the duo (trio?) hit on a perfect balance between sonic innovation, playfulness and sheer loveliness. This is world-building with sound, every bit as original and transporting as Aphex Twin's. Minus the weirdout factor — the world presented here being a cartoon galaxy teaming with jolly lifeforms descended from Kenny Scharf paintings. It's the Nutcracker Suite in Space, and there is still detail in it that strikes me as new with each new listening, 25 years after the fact.

A very knowledgeable guy told me years ago that the sound of 'Tahiti' was defined by the Nord Modular synth, still in development phase when the album was recorded.
