Opening of the Gates to Annihilation is the sixth studio album by the death metal band Morbid Angel. This album saw a change in musical style as the speed-laden intensity of the previous album Formulas Fatal to the Flesh was abandoned for a slower, more droning style, reminiscent of Blessed Are the Sick. This is also the first album in which Steve Tucker contributed lyrics and music to the band. It is also the second and last album to feature Erik Rutan as a member of Morbid Angel. Identifiers: Barcode: 5055006523515. Gateways to Annihilation is a continuing statement of purpose from Morbid Angel: We are an uncompromising death metal machine. The disc isn't a tremendous leap in style for the band, but is rather a refinement of their brutal craft. They sound like accomplished musicians throughout, creating a soundtrack of utter torment and famine. Gateways To Annihilation is the sixth studio album by American death metal band Morbid Angel, and the second to feature Steve Tucker on vocalsbass. The album cover was painted by Dan Seagrave. This album marks a change in musical style as the speed-laden intensity of the previous album Formulas Fatal to the Flesh was abandoned for a slower, more droning style, reminiscent of Blessed are the Sick. During this time period of Morbid Angel, many fans of their music were quite disappointed. For some, Domination was their last worthy release. In 2000, they released Gateways to Annihilation. This album definitely isnt the opus that Covenant was, and after a band releases a classic, the expectations for later releases can soar to ridiculous heights. So what could possibly be wrong with Gateways Honestly, very little. The songwriting is great, incorporating riffs that are easily memorable. For example, the opening riff of Summoning Redemption can be described with multiple words: chugging, sl. Producer Jim Morris, Morbid Angel.
