This was a bargain bin find from a couple of years ago but it's personally more than just that. It was a starting point for my recent love of Jon Carter's work. This music is quite of it's time, the hopscotch of drum breaks, wild percussion grooves, hiphop attitude & rules out the window or as it's more known; "Big Beat" or "Amyl House". The latter title which never made much sense to me since 90% of this music was breakbeats. And maybe it's just me but titling breakbeat-driven music as house is like calling a trendy version of house as electro when it's not breakbeat-driven....Anyhow.

"Lion In The Hall" is probably the most known from this, being a track was a victim of the massive over-usage of big beat on telly and film. It has a driving bass-line along with some great drums and it's a great tune.

"Crash The Decks: Slaughter The Vinyl" sees Jon Carter laying a chunky beat for Krash Slaughta to lay down some cuts all along. Track kicks along quite proper but it's Krash's playground until 3 minutes in where Carter unleashes a filtered bassline which takes the track to the next level. Which however is anticlimactic since the track fades out after a minute. I'm not sure if the 12" version is longer but i'm actually guessing that the version on this is an early fadeout.

"Metro Love" is a head-nodding type hiphop track with a dubby influence, scattered along the beats are vocal samples from a woman franticly talking about her love for someone. Finally "Beats in the Hall" is a somewhat stripped down version and reworked of "Lion in the Hall", an excellent compliment to the main mix.
