Legacy of Brutality is a compilation album of early songs by the American punk rock band The Misfits, released in September 1985. The album contains overdubbed mixes of previously unreleased songs, mainly from the JanuaryFebruary 1978 Static Age sessions. Besides the Box Set, this is the only official album to contain the songs American Nightmare and Who Killed Marilyn. The Misfits - Legacy of brutality 1985 Static Age T. So little care was taken of The Misfits' legacy during their original 1977-1983 run that the albums that do sum up the group's career are a mess of odd choices, remixes, and re-recordings. Many songs here are alleged to have parts re-recorded by Danzig. Heck, Who Killed Marilyn was a Danzig solo record. Production and performances, however, were never what The Misfits were about. Their raw, messy sound was part of their appeal and a main reason why punk rock of their era is considered superior to the latter-day stuff where professional studios tidy up the rough edges. Legacy of Brutality compiles a variety of Misfits rarities and outtakes, including the entire unissued portion of the band's unreleased 1978 debut, Static Age several of its tracks that appeared on early EPs are not included here. Also present are the A-sides of the non-LP singles Halloween and Who Killed Marilyn, the latter actually a Glenn Danzig solo record. The Misfits is a boxed set of material by the horror punk band the Misfits, released in 1996 by Caroline Records. Packaged in a coffin-shaped, velvet-lined box, the set includes four compact discs covering most of the band's recorded material from the years when Glenn Danzig was their singer and songwriter.
