Summer Days And Summer Nights is the ninth studio album by American rock band the Beach Boys, released on July 5, 1965, on Capitol. The band's previous album, The Beach Boys Today released March 1965, represented a departure for the group through its abandonment of themes related to surfing, cars, and teenage love, but it sold below Capitol's expectations. In response, the label pressured the group to produce bigger hits. Summer Days thus returned the band's music to simpler themes for one last. The second album on this CD is Summer Days and Summer Nights. This album starts with a rather strange song called The Girl From NYC an answer track to the Ad-Libs' the boy from NYC. I have to wonder if they added this in hopes that the East Coast would not reject the album because of its California Girls and Salt Lake City so, they need not have worried. In the past couple of years, whenever I get my fill of the best new music out there, I go into the archives and look for albums I missed. Especially if they are priced right like the Beach Boys two-fer remasters have been.
