Info
But Mel Street was the epitome of all good things about honky-tonk music. This album is absolutely fantastic. Personally, I consider Mel Street the second coming of Stonewall Jackson, and you can hear the influence Stonewall had in Street's sound. You can also hear the magic that Ronnie Milsap tried to capture with Street's sound, but never quite got there. Well worth your money, and your time. Besides, it makes you forget that it was the decade of disco and Kenny & Dolly. King Malachi Mel Street October 21, 1933 October 21, 1978 was an American country music singer who had 13 top-20 hits on the Billboard country charts. Street was born October 21, 1933 near Grundy, Virginia. Publications cite his year of birth as 1933, although his family maintains that he was born in 1935 and his gravestone gives the year as 1936. He began performing on western Virginia and West Virginia radio shows at the age of sixteen. Street subsequently worked as a radio tower electrician. Three of the hits here reached the Top Ten. Street was a talented singer in the direction of Moe Bandy who enjoyed several years of chart success, but a career-spanning anthology might be difficult to assemble since he recorded for so many different labels. Greatest Hits is too brief and passes over a lot of hits, but it's one of the few Mel Street CDs on the market, and at least offers some solid music at a bargain pr.
