Their debut album Surfing was released October 7, 2008, and featured a few guest performances such as Aziz Ansari in the song Duck People. Surfing is the only studio album by Megapuss. It was released digitally on September 16, 2008, and physically on October 7, 2008, on Vapor Records. Actor Aziz Ansari contributed to the song Duck People Duck Man. Album art. And Megapuss, the not-quite-supergroup formed by Devendra Banhart and Priestbird drummer Gregory Rogove with help from others including the Strokes' Fabrizio Moretti and Noah Georgeson, have all the flavor of a side project with no expectations - and, usually, no structure or songwriting. But this is a supergroup record in the best sense, where all involved pool their talents to write and perform with no constraints and maximum creativity. Album 2008 14 Songs. Surprisingly, Surfing is made up of songs that experiment with banging and clanging junkyard Tropicália To The Love Within, loungy folk rock Crop Circle Jerk '94, and post art-school musings with lyrics that lean on psychedelic inside jokes Duck People Duck Man. Even more heady sounding songs like the angularly arranged Adam & Steve fall back on Banhart and Rogove's penchant for witty puns, ironic wordplay and sexual ambiguity. Released: Sep 2008. Label: Vapor Records. Some were hoping Priestbird's Greg Rogove would inspire Devendra to bring the rock, but that hasn't happened. Surfing finds the new partnership crafting mellow tunes heavily inspired by Tropicalismo icon Caetano Veloso and alt-pop novelty acts like Ween and They Might Be Giants. The album feels like one, long inside joke packed with homoerotic one liners and celebrity small talk.
