He was a pianist himself and wrote a lot of music for solo piano, and chamber music including his instrument. Mats Widlund, one of Sweden's foremost pianists, is, however, alone in recording de Frumerie's sonatinas and first piano sonata, the latter at the time 1968 considered too difficult to play for Swedish pianists. Mats Widlund gives an authoritative performance, rendering the sonatas with absolute conviction and technical aplomb. Widlund knew Frumerie personally and performed the composers own works in his presence back in the 80s. Recorded sound is close and full, surprisingly good for such an esoteric label. After studying at Boiana Müller in Växjö , he was accepted to the Royal Academy of Music soloist class where he studied from 1977 to 1982.
