Notes
''This was the last of 3 Web Fan Club Christmas shows at the Moles Club in Bath, while the band were writing 'Holidays in Eden'. The performances of the 'Holidays' tracks at this gig were their first public appearances, and most - although recognisable - were not quite finished; most notable is that 'This Town' was played twice on the night, to showcase different versions (one as the "trilogy", and a standalone version) and get audience reaction. Also appearing is the rare 'You Don't Need Anyone' that was eventually cut from the album.''
I remember these shows were a fun time for us amongst the hard work (and often tedium) of writing 'Holidays in Eden'. During the writing process, we would play through versions of the new songs in the afternoon, and record them at night using the Moles Club as a live room for the studio upstairs. The three Christmas shows seemed like a natural progression from that stage - a way for us to get a reaction on the new material, and an excuse for everyone to have a bit of an end of year bash!
The whole time in Bath was a huge success, and the shows - as you can hear - went down well. I do remember it being bitterly cold, though (as you would expect for that time of the year!). I think everyone was amazed that we got as much gear into the club as we did.
This version of 'Splintering Heart' has always been killer in my opinion...

I remember that this gig was very small. Smaller than small. And Privet had enough sound equipment in there to fill the Albert Hall. I also seem to recall Steve Rothery getting hit on the head - there was a pole barrier that need to be raised and lowered to get into the car park. After I had driven through, Rothery came walking by, and the barrier landed square on his head. How we laughed...
