Cano plays well but what really distinguishes the album is the sound of the guitar, which is Montoya's own Sánchez Hernández, lent to him by Ramón's widow for this recording. It's absolutely gorgeous. Also of particular interest is a beautiful Guajira in D, which Montoya himself apparently never recorded, and which was one of the inspirations for Paco Peña's piece in the same key. He began playing in the cafés de cante before he was twenty years of age.
