Info
When young Maggie Roche introduced herself to Paul Simon, it is easy to see what attracted him to her songs and the act she had with her sister, Terre. Roche has an intelligent, individual songwriting style, and her songs serve as the vehicle for two-part harmonies with Terre, the soprano, and herself on alto, a sort of distaff version of Simon & Garfunkel. Simon was sufficiently interested to use the two on There Goes Rhymin' Simon. Seductive Reasoning is the debut album by the sibling folk duo Maggie and Terre Roche, released in 1975 on Columbia Records. It precedes their 1979 debut album as a trio, The Roches. A very strong album, Seductive Reasoning consists of all-original songs, all but one of which was written by Maggie Roche the exception being Wigglin' Man, co-written by Terre. The songs are quite distinct from one another, from regretfultopical Down the Dream to silly If You Emptied Out. the harmonies on the latter are absolutely stellar and the tune demands loud play, and the guitar is clearly the rhythm of producer of the song Paul Simon, and is highly reminiscent of his own.
