Mabon Lewis Teenie Hodges November 16, 1945 June 22, 2014 was an American musician known for his work as a rhythm and lead guitarist and songwriter on many of Al Green's soul hits, and those of other artists such as Ann Peebles and Syl Johnson, on Hi Records in the 1970s. Below, Vapnek talks about her unlikely foray into movie making, and why Teenies story - and fashion sense - should be universally inspiring. He was married three times, and had eight children: Velencia Anderson, Reginald Hodges, Sheila Hodges, Cherie Hodges, Shonte Stokes, Tabitha Gary, Inga Black, and Mabon L. Hodges II. His nephew is rapperactor Aubrey Drake Graham. Mabon Teenie Hodges, a singer, songwriter and guitarist who played a significant role in shaping the sound of Memphis music, has died due to complications from emphysema. He was 68. In 1976, Hodges took vocal duties on Hi Rhythm's album, On the Loose. He worked on tracks for Syl Johnson and performed on Ann Peebles timeless I Cant Stand The Rain. Hodges was the focus of the 2013 documentary Mabon 'Teenie' Hodges: A Portrait of a Memphis Soul Original, and he featured in this years Memphis music documentary Take Me to the River. Hodges died June 22 at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas
