Shotgun Wedding is the sole collaborative studio album by Lydia Lunch and Rowland S. It was released in May 1991, through record label Triple X. All lyrics are written by Lunch, except as noted all music is composed by Howard, except as noted. Lydia says she ain't about rock & roll per say but this one summons the slinky, dark, bluesy, sleazy, demonic essence of rock more than any of those who would profess such things. When she joined forces with guitarist Rowland S. Howard for 1991's Shotgun Wedding, it was clear that Lunch hadn't adopted a more cheerful outlook. Songs like Endless Fall, Black Juju and Burning Skulls are as morbid as they are captivating, and a superb remake of Led Zeppelin's In My Time of Dying fits right in. Cherry Red Records' re-issue of the Lydia Lunch and Rowland S Howard classic Shotgun Wedding gets reviewed by LTW's Joe Whyte. The overriding feel of the album is of mortality, love and death. Given Howardâs untimely passing in 2010, and Lydia Lunchâs unrequited feelings for the man, this stands as a towering testament to his art and talent.
