Mickie Most was Lulu's producer at the time he found this song for her when he solicited the songwriter Tony Hazzard, who wrote the Manfred Mann hit Fox On The Run when Most produced The Yardbirds, he had them cover another hit Hazzard wrote for Manfred Mann: Ha Ha Said the Clown. I wrote, demoed, and presented it to him within a week, Hazzard said in his Songfacts interview. Lulu is an eponymous album released by Lulu on Alfa Records in 1981. It is notable for containing the hit single I Could Never Miss You More Than I Do, which became the second-highest-charting single of Lulu's career in the US, hitting the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 2 on the Adult Contemporary chart in 1981.
