Info

Double Negative is the twelfth studio album by Low, released on September 14, 2018. Writing in Pitchfork's list of the best albums of 2018, Marc Hogan said that static prevails and flickering tones are almost untraceable to the instruments that made them, and that this sound captured pervasive. Burton, the quietly energetic and adventurous producer who has made records with James Blake, Sylvan Esso, and The Tallest Man on Earth in recent years while working as one of the go-to figures at Bon Ivers home studio, April Base. Burton recorded Lows last album, 2015s Ones and Sixes, at April Base, adding might to many of its beats and squelch and frisson beneath many of its melodies. Double Negative - Low. It is an album with noise coming out of its wounds. It conjures the exact inverse of the sort beautifying restoration work done on the soundtracks of vintage films to remove thumps, hums, and crackles. Here thumps, hums, and crackles are piled on and the results are rarely short of stunning. On the surface, Double Negative may appear to be a collection of songs that were composed and then dismantled, a sort of electronic-indie answer to prefab distressed jeans. Album 2018 11 Songs. The lyrics are oblique throughout particularly given some of frontman Alan Sparhawks more colourful onstage pronouncements about the US president but the music seems to short-circuit and collapse in on itself, with nothing working the way it apparently was supposed to. Tempest, meanwhile, is so distorted that it sounds like a vinyl record being played by a stylus caked in fluff and detritus. Elsewhere, its marked by a sense of the familiar being snatched away. Sparhawk and Mimi Parkers. Double Negative is the twelfth studio album by American indie rock group Low, released on September 14, 2018 by Sub Pop Records. The project was recorded between 2016 and 2018 with producer BJ Burton at Justin Vernons April Base studio in Wisconsin. Burton, who wrote and played on Bon Ivers own makeover record, 2016s 22, A Million, has made clear that he has a knack for helping steer a band into the logical unknown. Their previous collaboration with Burton, 2015s glitchy-around-the-edges Ones and Sixes, only hinted at what was to come. It is an album w

Usually, I go for the black vinyl version of an album, because it almost always sounds better. I mentioned to someone that I was looking forward to buying this album soon...and it happened to be a couple of days before my birthday. Guess what? They assumed I would want the 'collectible' version, and bought me this as a present. I felt kind of bad. Nonetheless, after giving this admittedly gorgeous clear vinyl a spin, I'm pleased to say that it sounds fantastic! I'm very pleasantly surprised, especially after reading easteracrobat's post here...I feared the worst. Fortunately, my copy has none of those issues...it's quiet as a mouse and clear as a bell.Oh, and I feel sure that the spelling and spacing discrepancies are quite deliberate. They reflect the warped feeling of the music, which reflects the warped feeling of our present reality.

Yes, the jacket got the spelling flaws, but my copy sounds very clean, especially for non-black vinyl; no pops or anything of that sort. I'm very happy with the music and the pressing.

Aside from the missing "e" on the spine, there are several kerning errors on the rear of the sleeve, like the "R" and "K" being too close together in "ROME (ALWAYS IN THE DARK)". I wonder if this was an unfinished version of the layout accidentally sent to print...Also my copy has small pops and crackles throughout. All in all, excellent, unexpected music from Low, disappointing pressing from Sub Pop.

Not sure if the mistakes were deliberate, but I think they add a certain charm actually. Like the printing is as warped as some of the music is. Either way, what an incredible record!
