Louis Daniel Armstrong August 4, 1901 July 6, 1971, nicknamed Satchmo or Pops, was an American jazz trumpeter and singer. Coming to prominence in the 1920s as an innovative cornet and trumpet player, Armstrong was a foundational influence on jazz, shifting the music's focus from collective improvisation to solo performers. With his gravelly voice, Armstrong was also an influential singer, demonstrating great dexterity as an improviser, bending the lyrics and melody of a song for expressive purposes. Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday -C'est si bon. Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday -That's for Me. Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday -La vie en rose. Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday -Flee As a Bird Didn't Ramble New Orleans Function. Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday -You Can't Loose a Broken Heart. Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday -You Rascal You I'll Be Glad When You're Dead. Louis Armstrong -Struttin' With Some Barbecue. Louis Armstrong -Basin Street Blues. Satchmo Serenades. And Louis Armstrong on the trumpet is sublime. This CD is so good that when my IT tech came to fix my computer, and it was playing, he took out his phone and took a picture of the album so he could order it himself. Satchmo gives us an incomparable interpretation of Waller's music that would have made the corpulent keyboard king himself very proud indeed. It is soooo SWEET You won't be disappointed. This is a really interesting CD of Louis Armstrong doing Fats Waller compositions. The first 9 tracks were originally recorded in 1955-56 and released on LP by Columbia Records in 1956 as the album Satch Plays Fats. These nine tracks are first rate material
