Loreena recorded the new material for A Midwinter Nights Dream at Peter Gabriels Real World recording studio near Bath, England following a highly successful European tour. With McKennitt providing vocals as well as piano. I really wanted to recapture some of the frankincense and myrrh in this music, McKennitt explained, and the process was a fresh reminder of the diversity of so many traditions when it comes to music of the winter season. The songs are rich with abundant references to the natural world and connections to our spiritual and religious bearings its clear that people have always used winter as a time of reflection. A Midwinter Night's Dream is the eighth studio album by the Canadian singer, songwriter, accordionist, harpist, and pianist Loreena McKennitt, released on October 28, 2008. The album is an extended version of A Winter Garden: Five Songs for the Season 1995. 8 new tracks recorded at Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios during spring 2008 were added to the original 5 songs of the 1995 EP. A Midwinter Night's Dream takes the place of A Winter Garden, which has been deleted from the Quinlan Road catalogue. This release focuses on the interpretation of traditional festive songs using Irish Folk arrangements and fares much better than most in terms of creating a credible seasonal record.
