There was a gap of about five years between Loeb's second and third albums, which is enough time for some sort of significant growth or stylistic alternation to have taken place. There's not much of such things on Cake & Pie, however. Loeb remains an above-average major-label singersongwriter, given to pensive self-reflection that doesn't quite cross the line into self-absorption. Cake and Pie is an album by Lisa Loeb. It was released in 2002 through A&M Records. The first single The Way It Really Is was a moderate hit among college radio. We Could Still Belong Together was also included on the soundtrack to Legally Blonde.
