Emergency is the sixteenth studio album by the American band Kool & the Gang, released in 1984. It ultimately became the group's biggest selling career album, earning Double Platinum status in America, Platinum in Canada, and Silver in the UK. The album produced four US top 20 hit singles including Fresh US 9 Misled US 10 the title track Emergency US 18 and the album's biggest hit, the million-selling Cherish US 2. This album marked the end of Kool & the Gang's 15-year association with De-Lite Records. Impressively, the group charted each of those 15 years, including ten number one singles. Emergency continued that tradition, and was responsible for two of those number one singles. The first release, Misled, with its crackin' bassline, led the charge it peaked at number three on the Billboard R&B charts. Fresh, an invigorating dance single with melodic verses and accented chorus chants, followed and surpassed Misled, claiming the top spot. Kool and the Gangs Emergency was released in 1984 as the Gang was in the middle of a hot streak. Their five previous studio albums all went platinum and spun off numerous pop, R&B and dance hits.
