Jungle Boogie is a funk song recorded by Kool & the Gang for their 1973 album Wild and Peaceful. It reached number four as a single and became very popular in nightclubs. Billboard ranked it as the number 12 song for 1974, despite there being as many as 36 1 singles that year. The song's spoken main vocal was performed by the band's roadie Don Boyce. An instrumental version of the tune with an overdubbed flute part and additional percussion instruments titled Jungle Jazz appeared on the album. Jungle Boogie was first released on the Kool & The Gang album, Wild & Peaceful, in October 1973. A month later, November 24, 1973, the track was released as a single, with the little recognized North, South, East, West as the B-side. Barry from Sauquoit, NyOn January 12, 1974, Kool and the Gang performed Jungle Boogie on two national television programs, the Dick Clark's ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon 'American Bandstand' and Don Cornelius' syndicated TV program 'Soul Train'. At the time Jungle Boogie was at 28 on Billboard's Top 100 chart, eight weeks later it would peak at 4 for 1 week and it spent twenty two weeks on the Top 100.
