Kit and Brad Allen performed only one show in support of Frames Of Mind, at a club called DC Space, on Jan 21 1982. During which concert, Brad broke a guitar string and took time out to repair it. During this break, someone called out a request, Play Untitled. During 1980, Watkins launched a solo career and recorded his first solo album, Labyrinth, with Coco Roussel on drums on Kit's own indie Label Azimuth. In a review of the album, critic George Varga described Watkins as a composer and synthesizer wizard of almost unequaled talents. The LP was largely in the same vein as Happy The Man, including a couple of compositions written for Happy The Man's third album. Kit Watkins. Frames of Mind. Here we have Kit Watkins, the superb keyboardist that most of us know from Happy the Man, team up with a singerguitarist named Brad Allen. Together, they appear to be serving up an imitation of New Wave electronic pop. Audia Created in 1982, Frames of Mind signaled a new direction for Kit working in collaboration with Brad Allen. The two musicians moved headlong into vocal pop, world beat, and experimental music, creating a broad range of material, opening with the new wave track My Telephone and traveling through to the earthy and inspired closing track Audia. The album heads into various diverging directions, such as new wave, synthwave, minimalist pop, rock ballads, psychedelic music, and experimental collages.
