Several months later, when they began posting mixtapes to prospective promoters, complete with CVs and bespoke artwork by Goldie, they made sure to keep their gender a secret. She usually laughed it off as curiosity. These kinds of tricks and concessions were part and parcel of being female artists in the male-dominated rave scene of the '90s. Storm has since said that none of this really phased her and Kemistry. They were too focussed on music, and they had each other. Kemistry & Storm - DJ-Kicks. John B. Ol Mixed 4:27 03. Kemistry & Storm Format: Audio CD. When Kemi Olusanya, one half of the jungle DJ duo Kemistry & Storm, died in a car accident on April 25, 1999, she took a big chunk of drum & bass history with her. Along with partner Storm, in '92 Kemistry first convinced Goldie to check out Grooverider and Fabio's legendary hardcore night at Rave, the birthplace of jungle. Goldie launched his Metalheadz label soon after, and Kemistry did a lot of the day-to-day management and helped discover such breakbeat microsurgeons as Photek and Adam F. An iconic instalment of the mix series. Read more: Crate Diggers: Calibre. Kemistry and Storm soon began headlining their own nights, and helped to launched the now legendary Metalheadz imprint. The duo released their DJ-Kicks mix in 1999, collecting tunes from Dom Roland, Goldie, Johnny. Kemistry and Storm styled themselves as one singular DJ, each retaining their own distinct style while sharing a box of vinyl between them Storm was known for her deep, growling tunes, while Kemistry favoured more off-kilter sounds. Ordinarily they split their sets down the middle and they took turns to start or finish, but the DJ-Kicks album led them to create a more integrated mix. We wanted as many artists that we cared about as possible to be on this album, so we had to break it down differently, says Conneely. I think that was a real true idea of how Kemistry and Storm work together. Kemistry & Storm - DJ Kicks. Tracklist: zOxigen. Drum & Bass. Tracklist: icksrelease2800. Released by: Studio K7 K7074CD.
