Info
808s & Heartbreak is the fourth studio album by American producer and vocalist Kanye West. It was released on November 24, 2008, by Def Jam Recordings and Roc-A-Fella Records. West recorded the album during September and October 2008 at Glenwood Studios in Burbank, California and Avex Recording Studio in Honolulu, Hawaii, with the help of producers No I. Jeff Bhasker and others. Guest appearances are featured from Kid Cudi, Young Jeezy, Mr Hudson, and Lil Wayne. 808s & Heartbreak was their first collaboration, and likely the most memorable. It was probably the easiest Kanye West record that ever got made, he said. It flowed the most effortlessly because we basically did it in three weeks. Ten years after its release, 808s & Heartbreak is an absolute. Its influence never really ceased reverberating, and its imprint still appears with some frequency across hip-hop and pop music writ large. Kanye Wests fourth studio album raised an entire generation: wide-eyed child actors, hardened Atlanta drug dealers, elusive bedroom producers. The album was formed off the back of an extremely difficult time for West his mother died due to complications after cosmetic surgery, his relationship with on-and-off again girlfriendfiancé Alexis Phifer finally ended for good, and Kanye was struggling to adapt to his celebrity status, often being criticized from the media. It was just what was in my heart. The type of ideas that it was coming up with, the melodies that were in me - what was in me I couldnt stop. Poor Kanye West. The guy was already a ball of conflicts and contradictions- hand-wringing over his consumption one moment, boasting about his wealth the next. He's someone as driven by ego as he is plagued by doubt- in other words, a wholly human pop star. He's made 808s and Heartbreak, which as the title hints is an introspective, minimal electro-pop record steeped in regret, pain, and even more self-examination than a typical Kanye West album. And as you've no doubt heard, on 808s West sings everything through Auto-Tune rather than rapping, a decision that for some has made this record a non-starter. Kanye West returns with his fourth album 808s & Heartbreak. His highly anticipated 2008 album features the heart pounding first single, 'Love Lockdown' which premiered live for the first time on the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. Go Unlimited. Remember when Kanye West threatened to make an album where he would bear his heartbroken soul, align with T-Pain, sing on every song with the then inescapable Auto-Tune effect and, less problematically, lean on the common element - the Roland TR-808 drum machine - of classics like Make It Last Forever, Posse on Broadway, 808, and Bossy. In various spots across 808s & Heartbreak, the constant flutter of West's processed voice, along with a seldom interrupted sluggish march of aching sounds, is enlivened by the disarming manner in which despair and dejection are conveyed. 808s & Heartbreak. Kanye West. Hip-HopRap 2008. His Auto-Tuned voice aches over sharp, icy piano and harsh Roland TR-808 drumbeats on Love Lockdown and turns aggressively wrathful as a buzzsaw synth propels See You in My Nightmares. Ye moves into stirring, art-pop melodrama on RoboCop, but his gut-wrenching vulnerability is clearest on the minimalist electro-pop of Coldest Winter -a frostbitt. 24, Kanye West released his groundbreaking 808s & Heartbreak singing album, which was met with polarizing backlash at the time. The project ended up spawning a new sound in hip-hop with the use of auto-tune, and is a fan favorite. Relive the classic album counting down the project's 12 songs. The cathartic Pinocchio Story was first performed in Singapore as a freestyle before 808s & Heartbreak was even released. It wasnt planned to be a part of the album until Beyonce fell in love with the raw recording of the track, which really made it special, audience shrieks included. With stark production and sung vocals, 808s & Heartbreak found Kanye West bearing his soul and paving the way for The Weeknd and Drake. The album proved to be another big hit for Kanye West, though, as it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling 450,145 copies in its first week. Greater still was 808s & Heartbreaks lasting influence on contemporary music. Its astute blend of R&B and hip-hop tropes, paired with heartfelt, emotionally vulnerable lyrics, reshaped the rap and R&B landscapes, profoundly influencing a slew of musicians such as Drake, Young Thug, The Weeknd and Frank Ocean in its wake
