It is the sequel to his collaboration with Brian Eno, Fourth World Vol. 1: Possible Musics, which was released the previous year. The recording draws influence from the culture of the Senoi people of Malaya. A 2017 reissue on the label Glitterbeat was named Best New Reissue by Pitchfork. The Semelai are another tribe not far from the Senoi but who live in the largest swamp area of Malaya, A recorded fragment of their joy-filled watersplash rhythm was re-structured and became the the generating force for the composition Malay, as well as providing a thematic guide for the entire recording. Elenco tracce. Chor Moiré. Overwhelmingly interesting and extremely variant, Jon Hassell's Dream Theory in Malaya is rescued from the stereotypical new age recipe, thanks to its ever-changing instrumental structure and the use of numerous eccentric instruments that emerge as the album progresses. The album's concept is taken from an anthropologist's 1935 study of a tribe of Malaysian aborigines who made it part of their daily routine to discuss the dreams they had the night before. Trumpeter and composer Jon Hassell follows his own dream logic on this 1981 LP, which synthesized his hybrid of jazz and minimalism, ambient and exotica, ancient ethnic music and glitchy electronics. The trumpeter and composer Jon Hassell may have titled his fourth album, Dream Theory in Malaya, after Stewarts paper. But in the notes that accompany this reissue, he finds himself taken less by Stewart and more by the cinematic sound of the word Malay and a little romance with an exotically-tuned woman from Kuala Lumpur. An excerpt from the essay Dream Theory in Malaya by Kilton Stewart In the West the thinking we do while asleep usually remains on a muddled, childish, or psychotic level because we do not respond to dreams as socially important and include dreaming in the educative process. This social neglect of the side of man's reflective thinking, when the creative process is most free, seems poor education. dream-theory-in-malaya- Brian Enoとの作品でも知られる異色トランペッターの1981年作 第4世界シリーズの二作目にふさわしい無国籍でエスノな空間が楽しめます パーカッシブなA2Prophet5のループが海の底に沈んでいくようなA4naka.
