John Denver and the Muppets: A Christmas Together is a 1979 Christmas television special starring Jim Henson's Muppets and singer-songwriter John Denver. The special first aired December 5, 1979, on ABC. The special has never been commercially released on any standard home media video format. The special opens with Denver and the Muppets singing The Twelve Days of Christmas. To add comedic effect, Fozzie Bear forgets his line Seven swans a-swimming. and Miss Piggy over-emphasizes hers. John Denver and the Muppets 1979 Special - A Christmas Christmas Together is an album of Christmas music by John Denver and the Muppets released in October of 1979. Recording for the album began in Britain on June 29, 1979. Some of the songs, with alterations, were used in the TV special of the same name which was taped five months later in November. The original album reached 26 on Billboards Top LPs and Tapes chart in early 1980, and was certified Platinum by the RIAA. It also spawned a 45rpm single with a cover taken from the same photo shoot. What helps make the music memorable is the stellar cast of musicians: Hal Blaine, drums James Burton, electric & acoustic guitars, dobro Emory Gordy Jr, bass Herb Pederson, banjo, electric & acoustic guitars, among others. The Muppets' loud rendition of Little St. Nick and Miss Piggy's folky Christmas is Coming are lively fun. Two or three of the quieter songs achieve a sort of poignant fireside prettiness especially It's In Every One of Us.
