Info
But Seriously, Folks. is the fourth studio album by the American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Joe Walsh. The album was released in mid 1978, on the label Asylum. It included the satirical song Life's Been Good. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. But Seriously Folks, released in 1978, was the album the Eagles should have made rather than the mediocre The Long Run. It captures a reflective song cycle along the same thematic lines of Pet Sounds, only for the '70s. The album's introspective outlook glides through rejuvenation Tomorrow, Over and Over, recapturing the simple pleasures of the past Indian Summer, mid-career indecision At the Station, Second Hand Store, and a melancholy instrumental Theme From Boat Weirdos. But Seriously Folks arrived on May 16, 1978 as a Walsh record at its core, dominated not by the Eagles but by his vision. Don't let the winks and nudges fool you. As with Walsh's other must-buy solo album, The Smoker You Drink, the Player You Get , he's in complete command of his muse, something that becomes utterly clear on the hilarious album closer Life's Been Good. But Seriously Folks not in the zippy four-minute version that went to No. 12 on the pop chart but as an extended anthem of double that length. Along the way, it earned fame separate from the charts when Walsh ran for president in 1980 as a lark. Rock 1978. The underlying theme of the album is one of clarity and acceptance of past mistakes. But Seriously, FolksBut Seriously, Folks is 35 minutes of flawless classic rock longer if you have it on CD, where some silence and A Flock of Wah-Wahs was added at the end. It came at a crossroads in music history. The Eagles had completed Hotel California after long, arduous sessions and had crafted a masterpiece. On this Walsh solo album, he had to juggle studio sessions with live dates for Hotel California. Best Classic Bands: Where were you and Joe in your lives when this album happened after Hotel California Bill Szymczyk: In November of 76 Id opened Bayshore, my studio in Coconut Grove. What they should have done is gone with Joe Walsh and recorded But Seriously Folks as an Eagles album and perhaps supplemented it with some of the superior material from The Long Run. It's clear that Walsh's involvement in the Eagles had rubbed off on him. Even if they hadn't appeared on the album, But Seriously Folks sounds like it could have been an Eagles album. To my mind, it's a worthier follow-up to Hotel California than The Long Run
