Альбом 1961 Песен: 12. Sommers begins with A Lot of Livin' to Do from Bye Bye Birdie her version of One Boy from the same musical was her first charting hit and covers a dozen standards and show tunes such as 'Round Midnight, Blues in the Night, and I Feel Pretty. The live tracks are beautifully recorded and the performances accomplished if a little cutesy at times, but this adult-oriented vocal music is far removed from Johnny Get Angry, the teen hit with which she is most strongly associated. Malogamand
When Joanie put on her show she would always open with "Got A Lot Of Living To Do". And she always would sing "Hard-Hearted Hanna." She would sing almost non-stop for an hour and a half and be excellent through her show. Then she'd be done. She used to come down to my table and sit with me and we would talk. (I was in the military in El Paso, Texas at the time.) She was (1) absolutely the most beautiful woman I ever knew, (2) the most talented woman I ever knew, and (3) the most energetic woman I ever knew. Of all the female singers that I have heard, Joanie had the best phrasing along with presentation; I prefered her even over Carmen, Ella and Sarah and even Nancy. I have never heard a better presentation of "Round Midnight" than hers. I think that she had the ability to be one of the major singers of the day...and probably even today if Warner Brothers had recognized what a wonderful talent she was. I hear her from time to time...I know her after two notes. I think she could have had much more of a career if she had chosen to. (I have a confession...having spent a little time with her, I had a crush on her that exists in it's own quiet way, even today.)
