Sacred Songs is American singersongwriter Daryl Hall's first solo album. It was produced by guitarist Robert Fripp, who also played on the album. The album was recorded in 1977 but Hall's label, RCA Records, did not release it for three years. According to Nick Tosches, who wrote Dangerous Dances, the authorized biography of Hall & Oates, RCA refused to release Sacred Songs on the grounds that it wasn't commercial p 85. When finally released, the album sold well. According to keyboarder Kipper's statement on this DVD, the original studio album took 1 year to complete. This DVD is the complete opposite: All the songs were re-arranged in view of the coming Sacred Love tour and recorded during rehearsals and live performances in front of a test audience. It is the sparseness of the new arrangements that revealed the beauty of the songs. Having had the album Jim & Jesse Today JJT on vinyl for most of my life, I wanted to find out what else these guys sang, so I bought this disc. The copyright year for JJT was 1980, & the recordings on this disc were made about the same time. In addition to covering traditional tunes & the hits of their contemporaries, the McReynolds brothers wrote some songs of their own, including my favorite track from this disc, Drifting & Dreaming of You.
