The Uncrossing was released in 1991, the album adding two new songs to nine remixed tracks from House Blessing. In its own way, Jet Black Factory provided a Dixie equivalent to the Seattle sound. In charismatic frontman Dave Willie, the South had its own Kurt Cobain, the deep-voiced singer delivering lyrics inspired more by Kerouac and Baudelaire than by Hank Williams guitarist Bob German's droning six-string work providing a sonic counterpoint to Willie's lyr. Jet Black Factory formed in 1985, partly as a reaction to the rampant music that dominated the local Nashville scene, but also because nobody at the time was making the kind of dark pop music the band liked to listen to. The JBF sound was a blend of moody major and minor-key songs that emphasized catchy melodies instead of hot muso licks and riffing that stood apart because of their intriguing lyrics that defied the standard clichés that the Music City is infamous for.
