Jens I know, yes I know They're flying within you again But I won't let them get you Cause you're my only friend You're my only friend. When I said I wanted to be your dog I wasn't coming on to you I just wanted to lick your face Lick those raindrops from the rainy days. You can take me for a walk in the park I'll be chasing every single lark I'll be burying all the skeleton bones Peeing on every cold black stone. But I know, yes I know They're flying within you again But I won't let them eat you Cause you're my only friend My friend My only fri. Jens Lekman is a lovable goofball. Coming on like a mix of Beck, Calvin Johnson, Stephin Merritt, and Morrissey with all the blend of humor and emotion that list entails, Lekman seems destined for indie sainthood. In fact, in his native Sweden he is a bona fide pop star. When I Said I Wanted to Be Your Dog reached the Top Ten of the album charts in mid-2004. The three EPs on Secretly Canadian leading up to this record have been solid songcraft mixed with pop wackiness. Expect more of the same here, only better. He must have been saving his best songs for the album, because there isn't a. Lekman can be lovelorn. He's also been known to write keening song arcs about terminal teenager Rocky Dennis whom you may recall as the tragic figure of the 1985 Eric Stoltz film Mask. However, he usually tempers his melodramatic tendencies with screwy tangents and truckloads of self-deprecation. That's the name of the game on When I Said I Wanted to Be Your Dog, his first full-length after a series of well-received EPs. The Rocky Dennis EP holdover If You Ever Need a Stranger includes Lekman's Moz-like resolution to cut off his arm in the. Jens Lekman's is a world populated by an endless stream of women. But not just any sort of women. No, these are the sort of women that inspire the most joyous of heartbreak in your mild-mannered crooner. There he is: hair mussed & glasses off-kilter, sitting in the corner of the cafe with his journal bookmarked once again he's being torn in two. Moments ago he fell in love with the red-headed barrista who so nailed his order - when she scooted that cappuccino across the counter into his his writing hand, it was clear that there was a connection.
