The moniker came out from Lynne as a response to ELO tribute and imitation bands, who repeatedly used ELO for promoting their own tours. The album was met with generally. That honor belongs to Zoom, a 2001 comeback that faded quickly into history books, its lack of success blamed in some quarters on Lynne's reluctance to tour. Alone in the Universe. A master of pop makes his long-overdue return. Yet only one man can sound exactly like ELO, and thats its leader Jeff Lynne, whose effusive sonic stamp radiates through the hits he helmed and helped write for Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, the Travelling Wilburys and others. Despite a few recent production gigs for Joe Walsh and Bryan Adams, though, Lynnes skills havent been properly showcased in years: His previous album, 2012s Long Wave, was comprised of covers, and the last proper ELO record came out way back in 2001. Writer: Jeff Lynne, Composers: Jeff Lynne. All My Life. Jeff Lynne's ELO. Jeff Lynne's ELO - Alone in the Universe. Even after the original disbandment of Electric Light Orchestra, and technically that the band is actually just Jeff Lynne in disguise, it doesnt matter that Jeff Lynnes ELO, what the band is called now, has delivered a masterful album, Alone in the Universe, the same Beatle pop-rock formula that ELO followed all these years. The melancholy of The Sun Will Shine on You , the racing beat of One Step at a Time , the heartrending When I Was a Boy , and the feelgood haunting of When the Night Comes render the album inert of error. This is the same ELO that never left the show, it was just d. On this page you can listen to the album, get information about the album, see the list of songs and much more. Not Jeff's best work, but still extremely good. The songs are not really "ELO" perse, but are well-written enough to make it great.

"Dirty To The Bone" is very well-done, and reminds me of "All Over The World" in a way. The title track is very beautiful, and has that amazing keyboard lick. "When I Was A Boy" is a track that has hints of "Can't Get It Out Of My Head" sprinkled throughout. Very whimsical.

However, let's not give the album too much credit, it has its flaws. For one, the orchestral strings are rather toned down. Sometimes you can barely hear them. Some tracks can be a bit tedium, as I found "I'm Leaving You" to be a bit.

In other words, do I recommend it to an ELO fanatic like me? Yes. Would I recommend it to a person which wants to hear the ELO sound? Not quite. Would I recommend it as an album and nothing more? Absolutely. Alone In The Universe is a mixed bag, but a brilliant comeback for ELO.
