Pianist Jason Moran releases his second solo album-a live recording made at the Park Avenue Armory. The Veterans Room of Manhattans Park Avenue Armory, which opened in 1881 and reopened as newly restored in March, is a riot of color, visual rhythm and contrasting details. Fine patterns of wood and metal intersect and overlap. Depending on where ones gaze is set, the style is Moorish, Japanese, Greek, or Celtic. Moran recorded first with Greg Osby and debuted as a band leader with the 1999 album Soundtrack to Human Motion. Since then, he has released albums with his trio The Bandwagon, solo, as a sideman, and with other bands. He combines post-bop and avant-garde jazz, blues, classical music, stride piano, and hip hop.
