Born in the sleepy seaside town of Napier, Hawkes Bay in 1998, JAKOB are a band of cult status here and internationally solidified as a post-rock outfit to be reckoned with. As their reputation continued to build they were twice personally invited to tour with prog-rock heroes Tool throughout Australia and New Zealand, and toured with Damo Suzuki, frontman for seminal German psychedelic band Can. It was released through The Mylene Sheath records on October 21, 2014. The album was recorded at Roundhead Studios and Sister Lung Studios in Auckland and Napier, respectively, mixed by Jeff Boyle and mastered by Chris Chetland. Never one to rush, they would take their time developing their songs, ensuring they were fleshed out and fully realized before coming to a climax or ending. On paper, this makes a perfect post-rock band, but it didnt translate so effectively to record. While production value and composition have always been stellar, playing it safe ultimately results in a black-and-white predictable album, which was the solitary flaw that plagued both Solace and Cale Drew.
