Shaming of the Sun isn't a great leap forward for the Indigo Girls, and in many ways, it raises more questions than any of their records. Retreating from the elaborate production of Swamp Ophelia, the Indigos rely on their trademark folky, singersongwriter style, and while it certainly sounds pleasant, it's beginning to sound formulaic by this stage in the game. In fact, many of the songs come across as filler, albeit expertly performed filler. Saliers writes the tender moments, openly expressing homosexual issues with warmth and understanding. Its Alright is assuring with an earnest pop bounce. Caramia is colored with a haunting violin. Everything In Its Own Time and Burn All The Letters confront politics with a vague paranoia hanging over the alluring melodies.
