On his second recording following a self-imposed, five-year hiatus, and his first featuring any original material, Iain Matthews he changed the spelling of his first name to its original Gaelic form returned with a songwriting vengeance, penning eight of the 11 tunes for Pure & Crooked, his 14th solo record. Iain matthews rarely makes a bad album although some will be perceived as being better than others. However, his music is not for everyone - he will appeal to a significant minority only. Iain Matthews has been around for ages, but his 1992 'Pure And Crooked', now available with a macho-sleeve and extra tracks, marks the beginning of a new era for this singersongwriter who combines taste with stamina and hard work. Iain Matthews born Ian Matthews MacDonald, 16 June 1946 is an English musician and singer-songwriter. He was an original member of the British folk rock band Fairport Convention from 1967 to 1969 before leaving and forming his own band, Matthews Southern Comfort, which had a UK number one in 1970 with a cover version of Joni Mitchell's song Woodstock. Born in Barton-upon-Humber, Lincolnshire, Matthews was known in the 1960s as Ian MacDonald, but changed his name to Ian Matthews. Pure And Crooked - Iain Matthews.
